Belum Adventure Camp

Fifteen representatives from thirteen media agencies participated in a special media sneak preview of Belum Adventure Camp (BAC) recently. They were invited to experience nature in the 130-million-year-old Belum Rainforest, Perak’s foremost nature park.

The Belum Adventure Camp is a great place for everybody to enjoy and experience nature differently. It is located on Pulau Banding, an island on the man-made lake along the East-West Highway. The facility can accommodate 30 adults, comfortably.

The camp on the 243-hectare island is managed by the EMKAY Group. The business entity envisions the development of Banding Island as a vital introduction to the Belum-Temengor Tropical Rainforest and aims to position it as a premier heritage destination on the world eco-tourism map.

The BAC is a perfect training camp inspired by the environment and the amazing biological diversity of the rainforest. It is all about experiencing the power of nature and letting flora and fauna teach, heal and strengthen people in body, mind and spirit.

Belum Adventure Camp aims to be recognised as the preferred destination for outdoor-based experiential learning and benchmark for corporate team building events in South East Asia. Some of the activities at the camp include flying fox, high rope challenge, kayaking, rafting and jungle trekking.

According to Dr Daniel Baskaran, Adviser to Belum Adventure Camp, more of such camps should be built for Malaysians to help them understand and appreciate nature, so that they can treat their heritage responsibly and respectfully so that future generations can enjoy them as much as we have.

“This is your time and your world, whatever we protect now will be beneficial to you and your children. So, it is very important for young people to know the importance of environment. If our young people are aware of this, they can then do their part to have a safer world tomorrow,” he added.

The participants took part in activities to help acquaint themselves on the facilities available and to spread the gospel when they are back in the office. On their way home, they stopped by the Rainforest Research Centre to witness scientists busy at work to protect the rainforest.
