Chemistry Carnival

The Malaysian Institute of Chemistry-Perak (IKM) organised the Karnival Kimia Malaysia (K2M) at SMK Methodist (ACS), Ipoh on Saturday, September 19.

The day-long event was officiated by Hj Hasni Hasshim, North Kinta District Education Officer. Seventeen schools from Perak took part in the event.

The primary aim of the carnival was to create awareness in upper secondary and pre-university school students on the importance of chemistry. It was also aimed at cultivating interest and broadening knowledge in the subject by giving them the opportunity to talk about chemistry and to put their skills into practice in a friendly competition.

According to Prof Dr Saravanan Nagalingam, Chairman of IKM, the theme of the carnival “Innovative Chemistry Building Lives” amplified the importance of innovative chemistry in enhancing the living standards of the people. This carnival provided opportunities for students to demonstrate their creative knowledge in applied chemistry.

SMJK Ave Maria Convent won top honours in the Inter-school Chemistry Exhibition Competition. Second spot went to SMJK Sam Tet while SMK Seri Keledang was third.

The winners were awarded medals and certificates by the district education chief.
