Chandra Bimbam 4

“Chandra Bimbam is a Tamil term for anything relating to dance,” said, Komala one of the stage crew.
The fourth dance competition since 2011, Chandra Bimbam 4 is organised by the Hindu Students Association from TAJ International College.
The event took place at the RTM Auditorium Perak on Saturday, April 23 beginning at 7pm lasting till mid-night. Tickets sold ranged from RM15 to RM20 depending on the seats.
Five schools and three colleges took part. They were SMK Jalan Pasir Puteh, SMK Seri Puteri, SMK Tarcisian Convent, SMK Buntong, SMK Sungai Pari, Praxis International College, Cosmopoint and TAJ International College.
“Schools are competing for the first time. Previous years it had been colleges only,” said another crew, Kamala.“This event, which we’ve prepared for around two months, is all about charity,” she added.
Judged by Ti-Amo dancers, Nantha and Ravin and Kuna, a Vehaara dancer, all of the performances were appraised. In the first round, participants danced to a song of their own choosing while the judges picked the songs for the second round.
The confidence shown by the school students, performing in front of a huge crowd, was commendable.
Crowd cheered the loudest when Cosmopoint took to the stage. Their well-choreographed dance routine was different from the rest. The spotlight was on Dinesh, whom the judges thought deserved the accolades.
“I started dancing when I was 18. Youtube videos were my guide. It’s exciting to be on stage, as it’s a whole new experience for me,” said 20-year-old Dinesh.
Tarcisian Convent was adjudged the champion in the inter-school category while second and third spots went to SMK Sungai Pari and SMK Seri Puteri, respectively.

In the inter-tertiary category the winner was Cosmopoint with TAJ International College and Praxis International College as runners-up.
