Gavel Club

Ipoh Toastmasters International club celebrated its 10th anniversary with its affiliate, I-Innovative Gavel Club on Saturday, August 27 at ibis Styles Ipoh Hotel. Over 100 members and guests attended the function. The dinner began with an introductory speech by Jacky Chong, the president of the club.

It was then followed by a talk on the history of Toastmasters Ipoh, cake-cutting ceremony, raffle draw, speeches and the installation of I-Innovative Gavel Club members.

Gavel clubs are established to equip youngsters with speaking and leadership skills. The programme instils interpersonal communication skills needed to present ideas logically and convincingly by minimising the fear of public speaking. Guiding them through their teenage years and beyond, the club prepares teenagers to meet today’s competitive job market by augmenting their self-confidence.

The impressive speech by the president of Gavelier’s club, Yong Ru from Poi Lam High School who is a product of the youth leadership programme, was the evening’s highlight.
