KLK Muhibah Cup

Sponsored by Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK), a total of 15 teams competed in the annual KLK Muhibah Cup (Under-12 Boys) held from July 7 to 8 at the Ipoh Padang. Entering its fourth year, the two-day tournament was jointly organised with Ipoh Bug, an Ipoh-based NGO.

“We want to encourage youngsters to play sports. We called this the Muhibah (Goodwill) Cup because the requirement is each team must consist of at least three ethnicities. We found out that in Ipoh there are not many tournaments for children under 12,” said Latt Shahrule Rambo bin Mansor, the chairman of the organising committee from KLK.

“To spice things up for the kids this year, we added two more trophies for the 5th and 6th placings under plate event. It’s getting more popular with the participation of schools from Ipoh and Kampar,” William Chang, president of Ipoh Bug Football Club told Ipoh Echo.

The team from Akademi Tunas, which participated in the competition for the first time ever, emerged champion.

Winners who walked away with trophies, medals, cash prizes of up to RM600 and footballs presented by Janaki Raman a/l Shanmugam, general manager for KLK plantation, were the following:

Champion (cup event) – Akademi Tunas A
1st Runner Up (cup event) – KPSA B
Champion (plate event) – Ipoh Fridays Football Club
1st Runner Up (plate event) – MBI A
Most Promising Player – Danial (player no. 4 from Akademi Tunas A)

The under-16 Boys tournament will be held in August. Stay tuned.
