Silver Jubilee Dinner

The Mind Science Association of Malaysia (MSM) is a non-profit, non-religious and non-governmental organisation founded by Dr Clement Fernandez in 1992. The organisation promotes the exploration of the powers of the mind and how it can help you in your daily life through courses and seminars.

The dinner, held at Hotel Excelsior on September 16 was preceded by a parade to the stage by members from different states such as Penang, Pahang, Malacca, KL and more. A group photo of associate members was taken to formally commemorate the occasion – ‘Silver Jubilee’ of the association.

Following the group photo was a short speech by the emcee, who stressed the importance of positive thoughts and thinking in our society. Thereafter, the attendees were told to say something nice to one another at the table where they sat, some of whom were complete strangers!

“Mind Science Association began here in Ipoh,” said Mr Michael Lee Khian Seng, the chairperson of MSM Perak. “It is only fitting to celebrate its 25th year Jubilee here.”

The short speech was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony amongst the members of the MSM before a grace period of 15 minutes; a time meant for the attendees to socialise with one another other on the table. A Chinese dinner was served soon after.

Two musical pieces – Beauty and the Beast and Wonderful World – were performed by Song Yu followed by another musical performance by Mr Paul, who jokingly said, “I have to make sure there are no eggs on the table.” (In case they were going to throw them at him for a poor performance!)

A slideshow documenting the chronology of MSM and its activities over the years, which included charity drives, help for HIV patients, drug addict rehabilitation and road safety campaigns was shown. This was followed by a moment of silence for the late founder of MSM.

Dance performances were held at the beginning all the way through till the end of the night from Let’s Dance Studio, one being a Michael Jackson impersonator dancing to various classic 80’s songs.

Bobby Dass, who was amongst the first few people who took part in MSM’s activities when it first started, performed on stage as a guitarist and vocalist whilst his partner honed the keyboard. Most notable was their rendition of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Elvis Presley.

Testimonials near the end of the night by members were given with some claiming that they had the power to heal a person with chronic back-aches. The fun-filled night was drawn to a close with a raffles draw, which included hampers, discount vouchers and mystery gifts.
