Charity Dinner Raises RM10K

Rotaract Club of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) ended Children Provision Charity 2017, the biggest charity event in UTP, with a concert on Friday, September 29. A sum of RM10,000 was raised in a bid to improve the lives of underprivileged children.

Besides organising two fund-raising events, namely Child-Pro Charity Run and Child-Pro Charity Night, the organisers too sought sponsorships and donations from corporations and well-wishers.

The money raised was donated to five children’s homes in Ipoh namely, Vision Home, Pertubuhan Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Setia, Pusat Jagaan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin Nurul Iman, Pusat Harian Kanak-Kanak Spastik Ipoh and Precious Gift Home. Each home received RM2000.

The charity run was held on Saturday, September 23, where approximately 80, consisting of students and staff of UTP and the public, participated in a 7km run around the campus.

The charity concert, held at D Hotel Grand Ballroom in Seri Iskandar, was the finale. The audience consisted of over 400 attendees and some 90 children from the respective homes. Mock cheques for the mentioned amount were presented to the recipients at the end of the show.

“We’re connecting those who are in need with those who have the means to give. There is no shortage of organisations, corporations and individuals who are willing to lend a hand. We feel this approach is more sustainable and meaningful in the long run,” said manager of UTP student support services department, Mohd Zairee Shah bin Mohamed Shah.

Present were assistant supervisor of Anjung Singgah Yayasan Kebajikan Negeri Perak, Rohaizad bin Wahab; Arthur Yeong, advisor of UTP Rotaract Club and advisor of Children Provision Charity 2017, Zulkarnan bin Abdul.
