Kampar: Efforts are being made to designate the Independence Clock Tower site in Kampar as a heritage site under the National Heritage Act 2005 [Act 645].

The Kampar District Council, through a statement on Facebook today, announced that research is being conducted to realize this initiative.

The National Heritage Department (Jabatan Warisan Negara or JWN) is also conducting investigations and documentation processes for this purpose.

“This session is led by Rokiah Abdul Samat and several officers from the National Heritage Department.

“It aims to explain the Heritage Building Conservation Guidelines, which serve as a reference for heritage building restoration works in Malaysia,” they said.

Officials from the Planning and Development Department, Engineering Department, and Corporate and Tourism Unit of the Kampar District Council also attended the documentation session.

For information, in 1960, the Kampar Merdeka Committee, supported by the All Kampar Communities Committee, proposed the establishment of the Independence Clock Tower in Kampar town.

The construction of the clock tower was completed within two months in 1961.

However, the clock was installed in 1962, and the tower was officially inaugurated on June 10, 1962, by the President of MCA Kampar, Chee Heong Chee.
