Entertainment Centre Operating Illegally

13 Tested Positive for Drugs, 22 Others Compounded

An entertainment centre located at Bandar Baru Medan Ipoh was found to be illegally operating in the wee hours of today (August 29).

According to the state police chief, Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, an integrated operation by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit of the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD) at around 1am found 13 individuals who tested positive for drugs.

“That was out of 24 individuals checked during the operation. Out of the 13, 12 were Chinese male citizens while the other was a woman from China.

“They are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the woman is additionally investigated under Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said in a statement dated today.

Meanwhile, 22 other individuals were issued compounds amounting to RM150,000 under Regulation 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Regulations in the same operation.

“The police would like to strictly remind entertainment centre owners to comply with ongoing SOPs under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) which prohibits entertainment activities.

“Hopefully, these operations reduce the public’s concern towards threats of drug dealing and addiction, as well as COVID-19 transmission among the community,” Mior added.
