IPOH: A total of 95 undocumented foreign nationals, including three children, were apprehended in a raid conducted by the Perak State Immigration Department involving 25 premises in and around Ipoh and Gopeng yesterday.

Sharmanrizal Rustam, Deputy Director of the Perak State Immigration Department, stated that the operation took place from 11 am to 12 midnight.

The inspections covered various establishments, including clothing stores, eateries, vehicle wash centres, entertainment venues, recreation centres, and private vending sites.

“Those detained comprise 39 individuals from Thailand, 5 from Indonesia, 18 from Bangladesh, 19 from Myanmar, 11 from Cambodia, and one each from Pakistan, Laos, and Egypt,” he said.

The operation involved 20 officers who examined 119 individuals. All foreign nationals were arrested and detained for investigation due to various offences, including lacking valid documents to stay in the country, overstaying, and violating visit pass conditions.

The Perak State Immigration Department urges the public to report any information or complaints to help curb the influx of undocumented foreign nationals in the country.

Stringent action will be taken against employers or individuals hiring or sheltering undocumented foreign nationals, including prosecution in court.
