Parents Encouraged to Bring Kids of Ages 5 to 11 for Vaccination

By Mei Kuan

As the nation will enter the “Transition to Endemic” Phase of COVID-19 beginning April 1, many activities which were previously not permitted will be eased and standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be loosened.

Deputy Health Minister 1, Dato’ Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali in a media statement today encouraged parents to bring their children for vaccination as a preparation for the transition.

“Some parents assume that during this transition phase, children of ages 5 to 11 no longer need to be vaccinated. In fact, there is an increase of 160% in the number of COVID-19 cases among children admitted to the hospital in 2022.

“To ensure children of ages 5 to 11 obtain protection from severe infection and complications, the Ministry of Health recommends unvaccinated children to obtain the vaccine immediately as the benefits of vaccination far outweighs its risk of side effects and complications.”

According to him, parents who bring their children to vaccination centres (PPVs) on working days will be given a time-slip as proof. The Ministry of Health hopes for cooperation from employers of public and private sectors in allowing parents to bring their kids for vaccination.

“Parents are urged to register their children as dependants on the MySejahtera application to obtain an appointment link or to bring their children via walk-in to the listed PPVs.”
