IPOH: The State Government, through Tourism Perak Management Berhad (TPMB), is launching a new initiative; Tourism Perak YouTube and TikTok Series.

The publication of both series aims to further promote and expand the Visit Perak 2024 (TMP2024) campaign through social media platforms.

Chairman of the Tourism, Investment, Industry, and Corridor Development Committee of the State of Perak, Loh Sze Yee, stated that the initiative is believed to have more potential to penetrate domestic and international markets, thereby boosting the Visit Perak 2024 campaign.

“Nowadays, many people read fewer newspapers and other print media and are more inclined towards social media.

“So, because of that, we see this initiative as one of the efforts to showcase Perak in order to gain cooperation from various parties, including at the international level,” he said during a press conference after launching the initiative at Miker Signature, Silveritage Complex today.

Sze Yee stated that, for that purpose, they are collaborating with approximately 20 local and international TikTokers and YouTubers, including those from China, Thailand, Japan and Korea.

“They will promote Perak’s products through their own social media accounts because each of them has their own followers.

“At the same time, the content produced will also be shared on the Tourism Perak social media platform,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Perak, Nurmalis Musa, said there are five local TikTokers and the rest are international TikTokers.

“Even though we have local TikTokers, at the same time, we also have TikTokers from abroad residing in Malaysia.

“They will create content on their own social media platforms, and the videos will also be available in their respective countries,” she said.

According to her, the content on the YouTube and TikTok series will showcase hidden gems, popular tourist destinations, and various natural beauties to be explored in the state.

So far, the official TikTok account of Tourism Perak has seen an increase of over 200 percent in video views and audience engagement from December of last year until the end of January this year.

Meanwhile, at the same event, there was also a signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Tourism Perak and PKH Kacang Putih.

Nurmalis stated that appointing PKH as a strategic partner and sponsor for this campaign aims to introduce it as one of Perak’s products and expand its presence internationally.

“Tourism Perak will showcase PKH in two major events organised by Tourism Perak and promote PKH on its four social media platforms.

“PKH will supply 1,500 packets of kacang putih each month to Tourism Perak and conduct product sampling for the Visit Perak 2024 campaign throughout the MOU period,” she said.
