Health, Safety & Environment Carnival

A total of 700 students accompanied by family members gathered at Outward Bound Malaysia, Lumut to celebrate the graduation of the fourth batch of the ‘Discover Yourself with Vale’ programme and to participate in the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Carnival.

Vale, in partnership with Outward Bound Malaysia, “Discover Yourself” is a programme geared specifically towards the personal, physical and spiritual empowerment of Manjung youths, offering more than just training to help underprivileged teens to develop their personal identity. This programme is devoted to enrich formal school education by facilitating self-learning processes.

Alongside the graduation, Vale also organised HSE Carnival, to expand knowledge as well as to provide exposure to the local communities especially school children on the importance of health and safety in everyday life. One of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives on HSE was the pedestrian bridge in front of SK and SMK Seri Manjung at Jalan Semarak Api that was built last year for the safety of the students and nearby residents to cross the busy road.

Sustainability Manager of Vale in Malaysia, Sarimah Talib said, “Vale is proud to be working together with Outward Bound to support and nurture the young ones in our community.” She added, “In accordance with one of our values at Vale ‘Life matters most’ we feel that it is our responsibility to develop and exercise their critical-thinking skills to allow them to begin taking responsibility for their own safety and health through the choices and decisions they make in the future.”

The celebration was attended by more than 2,000 members of the community. Among other activities at the event were a creative performance competition, HSE project showcase, colouring contest and karaoke session.

Noor Natasya Azzahra Bt. Azlan, appointed student leader said, “through Outward Bound I have discovered a thing or two about friendship, leadership, interacting with others as well as to be one with nature and it is an experience I would like to re-live again.”
