Tenby’s Kiddie Sports Day

It was a fun-filled morning at Tenby Early Years Centre Ipoh’s Sports Day held at the centre’s field on Saturday, March 12. The children came dressed in brightly coloured red, blue, green and yellow T-shirts representing their teams.

The day kicked off with a march-past followed by the singing of the national anthem and the Tenby Cheers, which got the parents and spectators clapping in unison to the music.

Puvanes Mahendran, Head of Tenby Early Years Centre Ipoh, in her opening remarks, said that children enrolled into nurseries and schools today did not possess physical skills and, therefore, were less mobile and agile. The reason, she posited, was their early exposure to computerised games, TV and the Internet. The absence of rough-and-tumble activities, enjoyed by children of yore, made what they are today.

“The emphasis at the Tenby Early Years Centre Ipoh is to develop their fundamental movements and sporting skills. This will form the foundation for more complex skills later on,” she added.

The eventual prize-giving ceremony marked the end of the morning sporting carnival. The winning team was Neptune (yellow team). It garnered 191 points to come out ahead of the competing four teams.
