WEIL Hotel Ipoh offered a true Malaysian feast featuring dishes from 14 states on Wednesday, August 31 at its restaurant, TIFFIN. First of its kind in Ipoh, the selection included pulut mempelam (Perlis), pajeri nenas (Pahang), tahu bakar (Johor), umai ikan tenggiri (Sarawak), daging rendang minang (Negeri Sembilan), ayam percik (Kelantan) and briyani rice (Penang). All-time favourites such as nasi lemak served with ayam goreng berempah and the signature Classic 8 Treasure ABC were in the line-up too.
The fourteen-in-one feast was a one-day special buffet to commemorate the country’s 59 years of independence. Patrons of multi-ethnicities came dressed up in Merdeka colours and those born on the meaningful day got to dine for free.
“We’ve come to notice the trend in Perak, not many hotels go way out in celebrating Merdeka, unlike Kuala Lumpur or Penang, for that matter. So after a lengthy discussion with our management, we said let’s go big this year. Let’s serve up a spread from all 14 states that’ll cater to all palates, be it sweet or savoury,” said Tharama Rajah, Director of Food and Beverage.
“Fully booked for the day, we’ve a lot of regular guests and new ones who are surprised that we are serving food from 14 states. We’re setting up additional seats al fresco to accommodate the walk-in guests. They’re enjoying the local delicacies and the welcoming atmosphere accompanied by patriotic songs which pumped up the Merdeka spirit,” Saravanan Thankveloo, TIFFIN Restaurant Manager told Ipoh Echo.
A 68-year-old retiree who was at the restaurant for the first time enthused, “I love how the Sabah’s giant garoupa is done in which every morsel is flavourful. The prices are reasonable for such a wide yet delicious spread. Plus, the service is commendable. The waiters cleared my table at the right time. I’ll definitely come again.”
Nine lucky diners walked away with exclusive vouchers from WEIL Hotel during the lucky draw session.
Ongoing buffet spread available at TIFFIN includes the International Buffet Dinner from Sunday to Thursday and the Seafood Buffet Dinner for Friday and Saturday.
