Charitable Visit by IRM

Children of Rumah Nur Hidayah, Kg. Cheh, Bukit Gantang, were all happy and smiling as the Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM), UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak RCMP and Pantai Hospital paid a visit to their home recently on October 15.

The children, aged between six to 13 years are mostly orphans or poor, were entertained by the volunteers of IRM and UniKL RCMP as they played games and quizzes. This isn’t IRM’s first visit to the house and they plan to keep on coming,

“Aside from playing games, we also educate the kids on taking care of their health, that is, brushing teeth, clipping nails and lice-treatment,” said Mohd Syakir Mohd Sarib, Volunteer Development Officer from IRM.

The team also held a health counter for the villagers for free, courtesy of Pantai Hospital where they were given basic medical check-ups including checking their blood pressure and more. With more than 30 volunteers at the affair to help out as much as they can, one wonders what is the reason behind charity visits.

“Programmes like this will not only encourage the public to learn that there are a lot of people who are in need but also to give them a view of a harsh life. Not everyone is as lucky as you are and it is your responsibility as a human being to help them out. You will get the chance to build a community that is aware of social issues and also build a network by meeting new people,” said Nur Amirah Ramli, Research Assistant from UniKL RMCP.

Rumah Nur Hidayah is founded by Abdul Manaf Abd Tahir and currently houses 24 female children. The house is run by Abdul Manaf’s family members and uses up to RM80,000 per annum for food, bills uniforms and school aid.
