New School Supplies for the Underprivileged

Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK) kicked off this new year with a much needed ‘Back To School’ programme by providing brand new school supplies to 55 children as part of its corporate responsibility (CR) initiative at its clubhouse in Ipoh, Perak.

Being a responsible corporate citizen, KLK encourages its employees across the board to volunteer their time and effort towards various CR initiatives and activities to demonstrate the spirit of ‘giving back’ to the community. The ‘Back To School’ programme is one of the CR initiatives whereby the company and its employees from Wisma Taiko purchase school items for children from the Pusat Jagaan Anak-Anak Yatim Dan Miskin Nurul Iman, Pusat Jagaan Diamond Home and the Precious Gift Home.

A total of 38 KLK employees played host to the children at the handover ceremony. Patrick Kee, KLK’s Group Plantations Director speaking at the handover ceremony, said, “At KLK, we believe that education is an important catalyst for positive change in the community. We hope that the ‘Back To School’ items will help reduce the burden of seeing to these very necessary expenses for the children at these underprivileged homes – so as to enable the children to better focus on their studies and to secure themselves a brighter future”.

During the handover ceremony, KLK provided the children with school supplies such as school shoes, socks and book vouchers; and groceries to the homes. Apart from receiving the above, the children were pleasantly surprised with the ‘Back To School’ gifts from the KLK employees as they were not expecting anything more, apart from the school shoes. The children were thereafter treated to delicious refreshments after the fun-filled day. A clown was present to provide entertainment and charmed the children with balloon sculptures of various colours, shapes and sizes.

As one of the key players in the plantations industry, the culture of caring remains at the forefront of the company. KLK is continually committed to bringing a lasting positive impact to the community and its people.
