Reduce the use of single-use plastic and keep our world healthy and safe was the message behind KPJ’s Zero Single-Use Plastic initiative’s launch (northern region), held at KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital recently. The event was a follow-up from the group launch of the Zero Single-Use Campaign by KPJ Healthcare’s President & Managing Director, Dato’ Amiruddin Abdul Satar, in January. Similar messages of environmental care and protection were also brought down to the grassroots to KPJ’s Southern and East Malaysian hospitals.
In his speech, Dato’ Amiruddin emphasised the need for all KPJ hospitals to be creative and innovative in safeguarding environmental health and safety, for long-term benefit.
Dato’ Amiruddin also said, “While KPJ is no stranger to environmental care programmes – having undertaken several programmes over the years, we continuously explore different avenues to reduce the use of single-plastics within our hospital operations, along with the conversion of plastic-based products into recyclable paper-based products”.
KPJ’s high-impact initiatives are aimed at responsibly managing the group’s environmental impact towards a greener planet, and social projects to uplift the lives of the less fortunate and marginalised communities.
As part of KPJ’s environment-focussed programme this year, several more measures are in place, including distributing medicines in paper bags at the pharmacy, reducing utilisation of single-use plastic material in dietary services, as well as replacing bottled mineral water with water dispensers and paper cups at the hospitals. KPJ and its hospitals have also undertaken tree-planting programmes.

Our commitments are borne through the Economic, Environmental and Social (EES) responsibility initiatives, to champion a sustainable socioeconomic development agenda.

KPJ KL Dental Specialist Centre made history by becoming Malaysia’s first MSQH-Accredited Dental Centre.
On the education front, the KPJ Healthcare University College located in Negeri Sembilan offers more than 30 programmes from Foundation to PhD. The group also has three colleges in Malaysia.
