An accident involving two vehicles and a casualty occurred at the Ipoh-Lumut Expressway (facing Old Town White Coffee) earlier today (June 19).

According to a spokesperson for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call regarding the incident was received at around 10.28am.

“A squad and a vehicle from the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the scene immediately after.

“Upon arrival, it was found that a Mercedes lorry had crashed into a Proton Persona car, causing the car driver, a woman who was aged 26, to succumb to injuries on the spot.

“It was understood that she was on her way from Sungai Siput to Batu Gajah. She was confirmed dead by on-site health staff.

“The rescue squad proceeded to remove the deceased victim from the crash site using special equipment.

“The operation was aided by a crane that relocated the lorry, which had collided on top of the car, to a safer location to facilitate rescue work.

“The victim’s remains were handed over to the police for further actions,” the spokesperson explained.

The operation ended at around 3.10pm and was led by Senior Fire Officer II (PBK II) Nor Azam Abdul Rahman.
