Private Care Centre Warden Claimed Trial Over a Charge of Rape

A warden of a private care centre claimed trial over a charge of rape at the Ipoh Session/Magistrate Court today (July 23).

The accused, Ahmad Irang @ Suhiran Aris, 43, pleaded not guilty in front of Judge Priscilla Hemamalini.

He was charged with allegedly raping a 33-year-old occupant of the care centre despite knowing of the mental disability, emotional disorder or physical handicap of the woman at the time the crime was committed.

The offence was purportedly committed at the said care centre in Ipoh at around 8.20am on August 28 last year.

If convicted, the accused will be subject to punishment under Section 376(2)(k) of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping. The accused will also be subject to police surveillance for up to three years.

The court ordered for a RM5,000 bail with one surety and fixed October 4 this year for re-mention. 

The case was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi while the accused was represented by lawyer Datin K Shamini.
