The Council of Ministers via a meeting held on July 21 had agreed to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consent to the Proclamation of Emergency for the state of Sarawak when the current state of Emergency ends on August 1.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, after discussion with the Sarawak state government, had consented to the Proclamation of Emergency in Sarawak effective August 2 till February 2 next year.

According to the media statement by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Proclamation of Emergency in Sarawak is necessary to postpone the Sarawak state election to avoid the COVID-19 outbreak from becoming more serious.

With the Proclamation of Emergency, the election will not be held throughout the effective period unless the Emergency is ended earlier.
