Senior Citizen Claimed Trial Over Murder

A senior citizen claimed trial over a charge of murder at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) Ipoh, today (August 20).

The accused, Lim Hon Koi, 72, pleaded not guilty in front of Magistrate Nur Faizah Muhamad Saleh from Kampar Magistrate Court.

Proceedings of the case had to be carried out at HRPB as the accused is undergoing treatment for intestinal inflammation.

According to facts of the case, he allegedly slit the neck of his wife, Chan Moy, aged 74, with knowledge that his action would result in her death.

The accused purportedly committed the offence in a room at the lower level of his house at Taman Desa Cahaya, Gopeng on August 9.

If convicted, he is subject to punishment under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence by hanging.

Magistrate Nur Faizah ordered September 30 for re-mention to obtain a post-mortem report, along with chemical and toxicology reports.

The case was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Nazreen Zabarudin, while the accused was unrepresented.
