Nanny Arrested for Attempting to Murder a Baby

The police of Ipoh have arrested a nanny aged 22 after she was accused of attempting to murder a seven-month-old baby boy at a house in Taman Desa Pelancongan in Lahat, Ipoh, yesterday (September 25).

State police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said that a report regarding the incident was received at around 3.03am.

“The report detailed that the victim was sent by his father to the nanny’s house at around 7.10am on Wednesday (September 22) in a good and healthy condition.

“The father was then contacted at around 2.35pm on the same day to pick up the victim because it was claimed that the victim had fallen from a ‘baby walker’.

“When the father arrived at the nanny’s house, the victim’s head was found swollen. He then questioned the cause of the fall, to which the nanny replied that the baby fell while he was being carried,” he explained in a statement dated today (September 26).

Mior elaborated that the baby victim was then referred to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) and it was found that there was bleeding and the victim’s skull was cracked.

“The victim was unconscious and is in a critical condition,” he mentioned, adding that the suspect was arrested shortly after.

“Based on preliminary information, the suspect was believed to have slammed the victim’s head on the floor twice due to anger over incessant crying from the victim.

“She stopped the action after realising that the baby victim was starting to fall unconscious,” Mior further stated.

The police have launched an investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempt to murder.
