2021 National Sports Day

The state government of Perak is looking into possibilities of building more sports facilities for the convenience of enthusiasts, especially teenagers.

Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad said that this depends on their sports interest and inclination.

“Some love football, while others love jogging, as well as cycling. Thus, we’ll do our best in creating more mediums for all walks of life to engage in a healthy lifestyle within our financial capabilities.

“We’re considering plans to create a cyclist-friendly infrastructure across the state, which includes more bicycle lanes on the streets.

“Most importantly, sports is one of the many elements leading towards national unity, where teamwork and dedication transcends racial and religious issues.

“As such, we highly encourage Perakeans to participate in more sports activities, be it from home or on a local community scale, to build a healthy living for oneself.”

He told reporters during a media session after launching the 2021 National Sports Day (HSN) at the Perak Stadium here in Ipoh today (October 9), which was simultaneously celebrated across the nation.

Also present was the Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia, Khairul Shahril Mohamed; Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin; and state police chief, Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, among many others.

Meanwhile, Khairul Shahril mentioned that the state government is targeting 253,000 participation in all kinds of sports programmes from around Perak.

“This includes activities both virtually and physically, in accordance with ongoing sports and recreation SOPs, such as badminton, which have commenced since yesterday.

“The responses we received so far have proved that Perakeans are indeed sports lovers.

“Hopefully, the momentum keeps going and more individuals participate in their preferred physical activities to enliven HSN,” he expressed.

Preceding the launch were an aerobics programme and a 10,000-step walk around the stadium.
