Man dies in horrific tragedy

A man died and another was injured when the 10-ton lorry he was driving hit the back of a trailer at kilometre 350.4 of the North-South Highway, heading north, today.

The man who died was a 41-year-old lorry driver’s assistant who was thrown out to the bottom of the lorry. He was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM).

A spokesperson for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak said that they received a call regarding the incident at 6.59 this morning.

“Members from the Bidor Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) rushed to the location and found an accident involving a 10-ton lorry and a 30-ton trailer.

“The lorry driver’s assistant died while the driver was injured, the trailer driver was not injured,” he told reporters on Friday.

He added, the operation commander then ordered members to do rescue work and remove the dead from under the truck.

He also said that the injured were given initial treatment and taken by the hospital ambulance while the dead were handed over to the police for follow-up action.

The operation led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Nasir Ibrahim ended at 8.32 am.
