UPDATE: Police confirmed 2 siblings drowned while swimming in a pool in Ipoh

IPOH: Police confirmed two siblings drowned while swimming in a swimming pool in Ipoh yesterday.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner, Yahaya Hassan said the two siblings who drowned were a 9-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother.

According to him, his party received information that there was a case of drowning in a swimming pool in Ipoh at about 6.10pm.

“Investigation at the scene of the incident found that two siblings aged 9 years (female) and 8 years (male) from Ipoh drowned while swimming in the swimming pool.

“For information, both victims were taken to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) by ambulance and were confirmed dead by the hospital,” he said in a statement here today.

Yahaya said an autopsy will be conducted today to identify the cause of death for both victims.

He said, in connection with that this case was investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children’s Act 2001 (act 611) (neglecting, exposing a child in a manner likely to cause him to suffer physical injury).

“With this, the police would like to advise the public, especially parents or guardians not to expose children to activities that may bring danger to avoid any unwanted tragedy,” he said.
