BAGAN SERAI – The Bagan Serai District Mosque made early preparations ahead of Raya this year by treating orphans and disabled people (OKU) to buy Raya clothes.

A total of 62 people consisting of school students in Bagan Serai were happy to receive donations to celebrate the upcoming Eid.

All of them were taken to a supermarket in Bagan Serai to shop last Saturday.

Deputy Chairman of the Bagan Serai District Mosque, Mohd Saad Hashim, said that the recipients of the donation were the children of the mosque’s parishioners.

According to him, the community program has been implemented 13 years ago with the aim of easing the burden of the less able.

“Each of these children received RM300 for ‘baju raya’ according to their wishes.

“We want these children to be happy so they can welcome Ramadan with a sense of fun because they want to celebrate.

“All expenses are from the contributions of the congregation and the public through a special fund that we have established to help those groups,” he said.

Meanwhile, single mother, Hashimah Osman said, the donation given by the mosque to her five children was very meaningful

“This donation eases my burden as a single mother,” she said.

For the housewife, Wahida Jamludin from Kampung Keramat Bagan Serai, said, what Bagan Serai District Mosque does can be emulated.

“This mosque plays a role in helping members of the congregation, so to some extent, it will ease the burden on families who need it the most,” she said.
