Express bus caught fire at R&R, 25 passengers safe

BIDOR: A total of 25 passengers, including the driver of an express bus, faced an anxious moment when the bus they were on was destroyed by fire at the rest and recreation (R&R) stop at Ladang Bikam, here today.

According to the Head of Operations of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak, Senior Fire Officer II Nor Azhan Noor Fauzi, the bus that was 80 per cent on fire was said to be on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Cameron Highlands.

He further said that his party received a call regarding the incident at 4.19 pm before members of the Bidor Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) assisted by BBP Slim River and BBP Tapah rushed to the location.

“The fire involved a Nissan express bus, a total of 24 passengers and a driver were safe and did not suffer any injuries,” he told reporters on Thursday.

He added that the extinguishing operation used two hose reel streams from the Bidor BBP machine tank water and one hose reel stream from the Slim River BBP machine.

The operation ended completely at 5.30 pm.
