Flash flood: 17 residents in Kampung Larut Ulu were placed in PPS

TAIPING: A total of 17 residents from three families in Kampung Larut Ulu, here were moved to the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) of Dewan Orang Ramai Air Kuning last night following flash floods.

According to a spokesman for the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) in Taiping District, the flash flood occurred due to continuous heavy rain for more than two hours, in addition to the low-lying residential areas in the area.

He also said that the incident happened at around 7.30 pm, and the operation to remove the victims also involved various agencies such as the police, APM, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

“There were 17 victims with a breakdown of boys (3), girls (5), adult men (3), adult women (4), and elderly women (2).

“The PPS was opened at 8.30 pm and so far the weather is cloudy and it was found that no roads were flooded or cut off,” he said in a statement last night.
