In line with World Kidney Day 2023, Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) brought cheers to their dialysis patients. On 9th and 10th March, Mr Nicholas Chan, Chief Executive Officer of PCSH, distributed goodies for all dialysis patients. PCSH had organised a sharing session by Ms Chui Jia Ying, Dietitian on “Healthy Eating” during their dialysis.
Dr Ng Yong Muh, Consultant Nephrologist & Physician shared that “kidney disease continues to be a major public health problem in Malaysia. It is often referred to as a “silent-killer”. Individuals may not know they are experiencing kidney related problems until they develop symptoms at the end stage. Early screening for high-risk groups especially those with diabetes and hypertension is important for early detection. This provides an opportunity to prevent or delay its progression and decrease morbidity and mortality. “
Mr Nicholas Chan said “this meaningful event has made all of us work to bridge the knowledge gaps to better kidney care. The 2023 patient workshop focused on efforts to increase education and awareness about kidney health and on reducing the chronic kidney disease knowledge gap at all levels of kidney care.”
One of the dialysis patients, Encik Zulazwi Bin Rasdi, 48 years old married with 4 children shared that he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2017 due to diabetes. He has been doing dialysis for the past 5 years at PCSH. He said “sometimes new patients are having trouble accepting the changes in their lives. Live in the present moment and to learn to let go of what you could have done differently to either prevent or prolong the start of treatment for kidney failure. Remember to take care of your health, do regular checkups and love yourself.
