Police arrested 3 men involved in online gambling

IPOH: Three local men were arrested by the police after being suspected of engaging in online gambling activities during a raid on a house in Taman Ipoh Timur, here yesterday.

Ipoh District Police Chief, ACP Yahaya Hassan said the raid at 3 pm was carried out by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division, Ipoh District Police Headquarters, based on information obtained.

“As a result of the investigation, the police managed to arrest three local men between the ages of 27 and 36 along with the seizure of various computer equipment.

“It includes eight monitor units, four computer CPU units, one internet modem unit, eight mobile phone units, and one tablet unit used to carry out online (online) gambling activities as well as a sum of cash,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Yahaya, the three suspects were arrested under Section 4(1)(g) of the Open Gambling Act 1953 and have been remanded for a day today to assist with further investigations.

In the meantime, he advised the public not to engage in gambling activities without a license as it is illegal and actionable under the Open Gambling Act 1953.

“The police will continue this kind of operation consistently to eradicate all forms of unlicensed gambling activities in the city of Ipoh,” he added.
