Wan Sabri was appointed the new Vice Chancellor of USAS

KUALA KANGSAR: Professor Datuk Dr Wan Sabri Wan Yusof, 58, has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS), with effect from 5 April 2023 to December 2024.

The appointment was approved by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, as Chancellor of USAS, to replace Tan Sri Prof Datuk Dr Nordin Kardi who completed his term of service as Vice Chancellor last Tuesday.

The certificate of appointment was presented by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of USAS, Prof Tan Sri Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali, in a brief ceremony held at the university’s auditorium today.

Meanwhile, Wan Sabri in his speech said that Nordin has set a high benchmark to follow.

However, he is committed to giving his best to ensure that USAS continues to succeed as an excellent higher education institution.

“My main priority is to continue the effort to make USAS an excellent and well-known university not only in the country but also internationally.

“In addition to that, create a USAS wakaf fund (endowment) to ensure the financial sustainability of this university,” he said on Friday.

He also listed efforts to increase the number of teaching staff who have Professor status and the Integrated Rating of Institutions of Higher Education Malaysia (SETARA) to increase the credibility and quality of education at USAS.

Wan Sabri holds a PhD from Temple University, USA in the field of Comparative Religion.

He is an academic and respected figure in the field of Islamic banking and is even a Shariah advisor to several banks in the country.

Before being entrusted with this position, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) at the same university since 2012.
