The newlyweds were arrested for drug trafficking

TELUK INTAN: The police arrested a newly married couple aged 23 and 24 yesterday, in a raid on a car near the mosque parking lot in Chikus, Langkap here today.

Hilir Perak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said the raid was carried out by a team of police officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, Hilir Perak District Headquarters (IPD) at 12.30 this afternoon and found a suitcase containing 20 plastic packages containing suspected heroin weighing 9.268 kilograms.

Ahmad Adnan said that it was understood that the two suspects were waiting for buyers in the parking area, before being arrested by the police.

“The arrest involves a couple aged 23 and 24 respectively who just got married yesterday (April 24).

“Both suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine.

“They have an address in Teluk Intan and both are not working. The loot is believed to be distributed outside the Hilir Perak district.

“The amount of confiscation can cover the needs of almost 10,000 addicts,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

He said both suspects will be remanded tomorrow for further investigation and the case will be investigated following Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He also said that the police are continuing to trace the members of the syndicate who are the masterminds of the activity.
