Local IPT student arrested for robbing a phone shop in the Menara Condong Teluk Intan

TELUK INTAN: A local man, who is also a student at an Institute of Higher Learning (IPT), was arrested in connection with a robbery at a phone shop in the Menara Condong Teluk Intan (Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan) on April 3.

According to the District Police Chief of Hilir Perak, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri, the 21-year-old suspect was successfully apprehended at a condominium on Jalan Perda Barat, Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang yesterday (June 13).

He further stated that with the arrest of the suspect, the police have successfully solved the robbery case at the phone shop in the mentioned complex, which resulted in a loss of RM300,000.

“Through an operation conducted by the Crime Investigation Division of the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters, together with the D8 branch of the Crime Investigation Department of the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters, the suspect was successfully apprehended, and the stolen items were seized.

“It involved 23 units of iPhones, 1 unit of an Apple Watch, 1 unit of an iPad, 2 Samsung pen tablets, RM853 in cash, 1 bag of clothes, a red Proton Wira car, 1 touch ‘n go card, and 1 car key,” he told reporters on Thursday.

He said the suspect is still single, unemployed, and is still studying at one of the IPTs in Pulau Pinang.

“The suspect was found to have a previous criminal record, but a urine test conducted on him yielded negative results.

“During preliminary investigations, the suspect confessed to being involved in this case alone. He has been remanded for four days starting from yesterday until June 17 (Saturday) for further investigation under Section 394 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and caning,” he said.

Previously, the media reported that the Hilir Perak Police were searching for a suspect who fled with approximately 70 units of iPhones worth nearly RM300,000 in a robbery incident at the Menara Condong Teluk Intan.

Ahmad Adnan stated that in the incident that occurred at 2 a.m., a security guard at the business complex was injured after being attacked with an axe by the suspect.

The guard was then tied up in the restroom, while the suspect broke into a telecommunications shop and stole the displayed mobile phones.
