TAPAH: Two men, aged 19 and 21, were arrested after riding motorcycles recklessly and dangerously at kilometre 329 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) in the northbound direction yesterday.

According to Perak’s Chief of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the Tapah District Police Headquarters (IPD Tapah) came across a viral video lasting 1 minute and 3 seconds regarding the incident at 8:30 am this morning.

He stated that the initial investigation revealed the incident took place yesterday (Sunday) at 1:47 pm when the complainant, who was the owner of a dashboard camera (dashcam), was travelling from Tanjung Malim to Ipoh.

“IPD Tapah discovered a video uploaded by the Facebook account owner ‘Mohamad Rais,’ shared on the page ‘Dashcam CCTV Malaysia and Kementerian Netizen Malaysia.’

“The video showed several motorcyclists performing dangerous stunts, such as riding with their heads down and lying down on their motorcycles, posing a danger to other road users.

“The two suspects involved are acquaintances, one works as a palm oil mill maintenance worker, and the other as a technician,” he informed the press on Monday.

Consequently, he said a police report was lodged, and the police managed to identify the suspects’ address in Tanjung Tualang, Batu Gajah.

“A team of officers from the Traffic Enforcement Crime Investigation Division (BSPT) of IPD Tapah went to their separate addresses in Tanjung Tualang and apprehended the two male suspects.

“Both of them admitted to riding the motorcycles as seen in the viral social media recording yesterday.

“The arrest took place at around 11 am today, and the vehicles used during the incident were also seized,” he added.

Furthermore, he stated that the suspects, along with the seized items, were taken to IPD Tapah for further action, and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He mentioned that the Perak Police will continue to intensify operations to completely combat the issue of street hooliganism while advising the public to always abide by the rules and regulations of the road.
