2 Thai men arrested, caught misusing letter of support to collect donations

IPOH: The tactic of asking for donations by misusing a letter of support signed by the Perak Police Chief was detected with the arrest of two Thai teenagers.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested after he was found to be asking for donations using the letter.

Both of them also volunteer for the Raudhah Malaysia Welfare Organization which is located in Taman Ipoh.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said they were arrested at 4.30pm yesterday in front of a bank in Gopeng.

He said the inspection found that they entered the country using a visit pass, however the visit pass of one of them had expired.

“The suspect was found to have misused a letter of support signed by the Perak Police Chief  while asking for donations in the Gopeng area.

“Both suspects were arrested for investigation under Seksyen 3(3) Akta Pungutan Derma Rumah Ke Rumah dan Jalan 1947 and Seksyen 55B Akta Imigresen 1959/1963,” he said in a statement.

Accordingly, the public is reminded not to misuse the permission given for purposes that are not legally valid.
