4,240 kg of cooking oil was confiscated

IPOH: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) Perak confiscated 4,240 kilograms (kg) of cooking oil worth RM 16,224 after an inspection at the grocery wholesale business premises at Kawasan Perindustian Ringan, Kinta Jaya here, at about 11.30am yesterday.

Director of the Office of the Perak State Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said, an inspection by a team of officers and members of the KPDN on the premises involving sugar control items, cooking oil and wheat flour.

“The result of the inspection of the premises found that the premises have a Wholesale Control Supply Act (CSA) license which is still valid with a total storage limit of Sugar – 50 Metric Tons (MT), Cooking Oil – 10 MT and Wheat Flour – 20MT.

“The premises also have a CSA Retail license for Sugar, Cooking Oil & Wheat Flour which is still valid with a total quantity limit of 500 kilograms (kg) each.

  • “Further inspection of the quantity of storage in the premises found that the premises had stored controlled items of various brands of cooking oil which amounted to 14,740 kg exceeding the storage limit as allowed in both CSA Wholesale licenses which is 10M/T,” he said in a statement today.

Kamalludin said, the premise is suspected of committing an offense under Per. 21 PPKB 1974 for violating under subpar. 9(1) PPKB 1974 which means wholesalers are not allowed to store more than the storage limit of cooking oil control items as stated in the CSA license.

“Accordingly, the Perak KPDN Enforcement Officer has seized 4,240 kg of the cooking oil for further investigation purposes.

“The total value of the total seizure is estimated at RM 16,224,” he said.

He said the case will be investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.
