PANGKOR – A total of 160 swimmers participated in the Lumut Merdeka Swim 2023, an event held in conjunction with the Lumut Merdeka Fair 2023.

Participants swam from Teluk Kecil Pangkor to Lumut, covering a distance of 8 kilometres (km).

The majority of participants included members of the Royal Malaysian Navy Special Forces (PASKAL) as well as female participants, teenagers, and children.

This program was organized by the Royal Malaysian Navy Training and Education Headquarters (MPPL TLDM) in conjunction with Malaysia’s 65th National Day.

Earlier, the participants were flagged off by Pangkor State Assembly Member, Norhaslinda Zakaria, alongside the Commander of MPPL, Rear Admiral Dato’ Anuar Mohamed.

Before the event, the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag) was presented as a symbolic gesture to mark the start of the Lumut Merdeka Swim 2023, a race from Pasir Bogak to Teluk Kechil Jetty on Pangkor Island covering a distance of 2.5 km.

When interviewed, Norhaslinda expressed admiration for the dedication and spirit of the participants, who completed this challenging swim, demonstrating mental and physical endurance in the spirit of independence.

“The Lumut Merdeka Fair 2023 aims to promote Lumut as a Navy Town and Malaysia as a Maritime Nation to the public and the general populace.

“In addition, various exhibitions, souvenir sales, and performances were carried out by members of The Navy throughout the event, which took place from Friday until today,” she said.
