HUTAN MELINTANG: An elderly man locked himself in a room at Simpang Empat here yesterday before firefighters came to help break down the door.

According to Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division Assistant Director, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said, the 68-year-old man acted in this way because of the mental pressure he was facing.

“The fire department received a call regarding the incident at 3pm and then members from the Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Hutan Melintang went to the location.

“It is believed that the man locked himself in the room due to mental stress,” he told reporters on Thursday.

He explained further, the firemen then broke the door using special ‘crowbar’ equipment until it was opened successfully.

Therefore, he said, the victim was handed over to the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) for follow-up action.

The operation led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Rozali Uyob ended at 3.49pm.
