IPOH:Perak has received a new investment worth RM2 billion from Zhejiang Sinopont Technology Co. Ltd, a leading Chinese solar encapsulation film manufacturing company.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamady witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement (MoU) between Invest Perak and Zhejiang Sinopont Technology Co. Ltd at their headquarters in Hangzhou, China.

Saarani stated that Zhejiang Sinopont has chosen Perak as the destination to establish their first factory in Southeast Asia.

He said that  their subsidiary in Malaysia, Sinopoint Everthriving (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. is actively working on the processes for the construction of their new plant in Tasek Industrial Park, Ipoh.

“It is expected that this new plant will commence operations in the first quarter of 2024 for the production of solar cell encapsulation films with a production capacity of up to 85 million square meters of encapsulation, which will meet the 10 GW demand.

“Zhejiang Sinopont’s investment will be phased in until it reaches a production capacity of 300 million square meters of encapsulation, meeting the demand for 30 GW, including potential future projects in Perak,” he said.

It is anticipated that this factory will create up to 300 job opportunities for the people of Perak when it is fully operational.

Through this project, Zhejiang Sinopont will further strengthen the solar panel manufacturing ecosystem in Malaysia, particularly in the northern region.
