MUALLIM: Three women died in a road accident at Kilometer 390 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound here this afternoon.

The three deceased victims were hit by a Toyota Altis car when they stopped their vehicle to help an overturned vehicle at the scene.

The three victims, Fatihah Nabila Bukri, 23 (Head of the PAS Young Women’s Special Unit in Sungai Petani); Taibah Sulaiman, 61 (Head of the PAS Muslim Women in Sungai Petani); and Nurul Najihah Amzi, 27 (Assistant Unit Head 1 of PAS in Sungai Petani), were in a Toyota Fortuner vehicle and lost their lives.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Perodua Myvi suffered head injuries, both riders of Yamaha Y15ZR and Honda EX5 motorcycles sustained minor injuries, while the two drivers of the Mitsubishi Triton and Toyota Altis cars involved did not suffer any injuries.

Muallim District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Hasni Mohd Nasir, said they received information about the accident involving four cars and two motorcycles at 2:30 in the afternoon.

According to him, the investigation found that the Mitsubishi Triton driver was traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Kedah when they lost control, veered and overturned into the left roadside drain at the accident location.

“Subsequently, two riders of Yamaha Y15ZR and Honda EX5 motorcycles, the Myvi driver, and the Toyota Fortuner passengers stopped on the emergency lane to provide assistance.

“Five minutes later, a Toyota Altis car from the same direction in the right lane lost control and collided with both motorcycle riders, the Myvi driver, and the victims from the Toyota Fortuner.

“As a result, all the victims were thrown into the left roadside drain. The Toyota Altis car also collided with the Yamaha Y15ZR and Honda EX5 motorcycles,” he said.

He explained that as a result of the accident, the driver and one passenger from the Toyota Fortuner died at the accident site.

Another passenger from the vehicle passed away at Slim River Hospital while receiving treatment.

“All three deceased victims were members of the PAS Muslim Women’s Group in the Sungai Petani area who had just attended the 69th PAS Annual Assembly in Shah Alam, Selangor,” he said.

He added that the cause of the accident was the Toyota Altis car skidding and colliding with the victims’ vehicle and the vehicle on the emergency lane.
