40 houses severely damaged due to a storm in Meru, Evacuation Centers opened for the victims

IPOH: Approximately 40 houses were severely damaged due to continuous heavy rain followed by a storm in Taman Meru 2C, near here this evening.

According to the Chairman of the Kinta District Disaster Management Committee, Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, the Kinta District Civil Defense Force received information about the incident at 5:37 pm.

“Heavy rain persisted for more than two hours, followed by a storm in the mentioned area, estimated to have affected around 40 houses due to the incident.

“After conducting observations with the police, Civil Defense Force, fire department, and the Village Head, it was found that the situation is still not safe, and all victims require temporary shelter.

“Therefore, a temporary relocation center (PPS) at the Taman Meru Public Hall will be operational starting today at 8 pm,” he said here today.

Previously, an extraordinary heavy rain accompanied by a storm had caused damage to several houses around Ipoh.

Additionally, there were incidents of fallen trees, and some areas experienced flooding.
