Van skidded, collided with telecommunication pole, caught fire. Man survived

IPOH: A male driver managed to rescue himself when the Ford van he was riding in crashed and caught fire in Jalan Charleton, Taman Cherry, here, late last night.

Assistant Director of the Operations Division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad stated that the victim identified as R Ranganathan, 58, had collided with a telecommunication’s pole and then veered off the road.

“The Fire Department received a call regarding the incident at 10:54 p.m., before members of the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Department were rushed to the scene.

“Upon reaching the incident location, they discovered that a van was burned up to 90 per cent.

“However, a male victim successfully rescued himself by exiting the vehicle after it skidded off,” he said in a statement here today.

Therefore, he said the operations chief implemented the ‘receo’ concept and extinguished the fire using two additional hose streams drawing water from the fire engine.

The operation, led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Fakhurazi Johari, concluded at 11:53 p.m.
