Two men killed in car and trailer accident at Gerik

GERIK: Two men were killed after the Proton Wira car they were riding in was involved in an accident with a trailer carrying a load of wood dust on Thursday evening.

According to the Assistant Director of Operations of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, the accident occurred on the East-West Highway, heading from Tasik Banding to Gerik.

He said the victims, both in their 30s, were trapped inside the vehicle.

“Our team received an emergency call regarding the incident at 5:17 pm, and members from the Gerik Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the location.

“Upon arrival at 5:33 pm, two victims were found trapped in the car,” he told reporters today.

In connection with that, he said, the commander conducted a size-up and directed members to use hydraulic cutters and spreaders to extricate the trapped victims.

He added that the victims were confirmed dead at the scene by officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Health who were present.

The operation, led by the Chief of the Gerik Fire and Rescue Station, Senior Fire Superintendent Azizan Aziz, concluded at 7:39 pm.
