By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The project to upgrade the private road and construct a drainage system from Desa Pakatan to Lapangan Perdana is expected to start in March next year.

Member of Parliament for Gopeng, Tan Kar Hing, stated that the private road upgrade project is a private finance initiative.

He mentioned that it involves a distance of 800 meters and is expected to take a minimum of 3 to 4 months.

“Through a meeting dated December 6, 2023, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) and 16 developers in the surrounding area have reached an agreement on the construction cost liability amounting to RM1.7 million.

“This includes other understandings regarding the terms and conditions related to this project,” he said.

MBI will conduct technical discussions in the coming 3 months and subsequently present the discussion outcomes in the MBI General Purpose Meeting to seek approval.

Explaining further, Kar Hing clarified that MBI is scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding with the developers, ensuring that the responsibility for maintaining the road is transferred back to MBI once the road upgrade project is fully completed.

“I would also like to express appreciation to MBI and the developers who have assisted and cooperated in the effort to successfully carry out this road upgrade project.

“This upgrade project is among the main missions of the Gopeng Parliamentary Service Center and the Ipoh City Council this year, and we are pleased that this public issue can be resolved.

“We will continue to commit to this issue to ensure the smooth and timely implementation of the project,” he said.
