BATU GAJAH: A retired police officer died after his motorcycle collided with an excavator in Lorong 4 Bakar Kampung Ayer Papan, here, on Monday.

Batu Gajah District Police Chief, ACP Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif, said the 55-year-old victim was on his way home to Kampung Gajah.

“The accident between the motorcycle and the excavator occurred on Monday at 12 noon.

“The investigation found that when the victim arrived at the scene, the excavator driver suddenly swerved out from the left side of the road causing the victim who was approaching in the proper lane to collide with the vehicle in front of the right ‘bucket’.

“As a result of the accident, the motorcycle rider suffered severe injuries to the chest and died at the scene,” he said last night.

He added that the initial urine test of the 64-year-old excavator driver came back negative, and there were no prior traffic violation records.

Mohamad Roy said the victim’s body was later sent to the Batu Gajah Hospital for post-mortem purposes, and further investigations are ongoing.

“The public with information or whoever witnessed this accident are requested to contact the Traffic Investigating Officer of the Batu Gajah District Police Headquarters, Insp Rissi A/L Ganasan at 017-7615662,” he said.
