Wayang Pacak for free in memory of Mamat Khalid

IPOH: Tourism Perak will host a ‘wayang pacak’ (open-air cinema) to pay tribute to the late Perak artist, Mamat Khalid, from December 30, 2023, to January 1, 2024, at Silverlakes Village Outlet, Batu Gajah.

The free screenings are part of the Launch of Perak Visit Year 2024 and the New Year’s Eve 2024 celebrations.

A spokesperson for Tourism Perak stated that the movies to be screened include Man Laksa Dalam Malam Amal Kampung Talang, Zombi Kampung Pisang and Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah.

“This Wayang Pacak is a tribute to the late artist, Mamat Khalid.

“Man Laksa Dalam Malam Amal Kampung Talang will be shown on December 30 at 2:30 pm, Zombi Kampung Pisang on December 31 at 3:30 pm and Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah on January 1 at 8 pm.

“Let’s all come and witness his remarkable works at Silverlakes Village Outlet, Batu Gajah.

“You are encouraged to bring ‘healing chairs’ or ‘bean bags’ for your comfort,” the spokesperson added.

Mamat was known for his directorial films, including Zombie Kampung Pisang, Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah, among others.

Additionally, he is remembered for his comedy dramas like Rombongan Cik Kiah ke Sukan Komanwel, Rombongan Cik Kiah Ke Kelana Jaya, and 16 Puasa.

Mamat was also the scriptwriter for the epic film, Puteri Gunung Ledang, starring Tiara Jacquelina and M Nasir.

His latest creative work was Kampong Pisang Kita Setandan, a short film that revolves around the spirit of unity in a village deeply cherished by audiences, Kampong Pisang.
