IPOH: The Perak State Government supports the initiative of recycling used cooking oil in efforts to preserve the environmental sustainability of this state.

Chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee of Perak, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, stated that for that purpose, they met with a registered and licensed used cooking oil collector company, Green Energy Asia (GEA), to discuss efforts in increasing public awareness and expanding the campaign.

“I have received a briefing from GEA, the registered collector of used cooking oil, and visited the storage warehouse of this company.

“Subsequently I, along with the GEA team, visited Pakeeza Restaurant & Catering and Dim Sum Discovery by Canning to personally observe the collection of used cooking oil,” she said through Facebook here after the site visit recently.

Sandrea said her party hopes that more entrepreneurs and the public will start the practice of recycling used cooking oil for the sustainability of the environment.

“Used cooking oil can be recycled to produce biodiesel as an eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels.

“Let’s work together to manage used cooking oil in the right way for the sustainability of the environment,” she said.

She said, The 2020 Pollution Study shows that each household uses an average minimum of 2 kilograms (kg) of cooking oil per month, while 45 percent of unusable oil will be disposed of immediately.

“The disposal of used oil, such as in trash bins, sinks, or drains, will increase the burden on waste disposal sites.

“Moreover, it can cause drainage systems to clog and encourage the breeding of pests,” he said.
