IPOH: There will be a total of 24 Ramadan bazaar locations within the administrative area of Ipoh City Council (MBI) this year, involving 1,128 hawkers.

According to the Mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, the management of the bazaarsk is handled by organizers comprising of hawkers’ associations, entrepreneur cooperatives, mosque committee members, surau (small mosque) representatives, and private agencies.

He mentioned that monitoring and enforcement of license conditions will be carried out by MBI to ensure the cleanliness of stalls, safety, and the maintained quality of the food sold.

“The payment rate set by MBI to organizers does not exceed RM750, covering tent rental, licenses, and cleaning.

“However, most organizers charge only up to RM650, and that rate is reasonable and greatly assists the hawkers,” he said here today.

He also issued a warning to traders who engage in selling their bazaar spaces to others.

“Previously, around the year 2022, there were traders selling bazaar spaces, so we took action and tightened the conditions,” he said.

Rumaizi added, this year also features the MySafeFood@Ramadan2024 program.

Through that program, Pemuda Gema Perak will collect food from Ramadan bazaar hawkers who wish to contribute.

“Then, it will be distributed to those in need, ensuring no wastage occurs in case of excess unsold food.

“The program will be implemented at the Taman Cempaka Ramadan Bazaar and the Medan Gopeng Ramadan Bazaar,” he said.
