Taiping receives RM37.76 million to implement various development programs

TAIPING: Several developments and projects have been implemented by the Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) through allocations received from various agencies.

There are two main allocations received, Federal Allocation and State Allocation.

The total allocation for the implementation and expenditure of MPT’s development projects approved in 2023 amounted to RM37.76 million, involving a total of 141 projects

Yang Dipertua MPT, Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir, stated that under the Federal allocation, MPT received the largest amount from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, totaling RM28 million.

From that amount, he said, infrastructure projects amounted to RM5.01 million, socio-economic projects (RM19.78 million), and public facilities (RM2.72 million).

“This includes impactful social allocations such as the Safe City program worth RM400,000 and the urban poverty eradication program (RM89,000).

“Other allocations include RM500,000 from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources for the upgrading and refurbishment of facilities at Taiping Zoo & Night Safari and Zoo Taiping Pavilion Square.

“For state allocations, a total of RM6.94 million was received, including grants for the development of the New Village Chinese Section and the State Road Maintenance Trust Fund,” he said.

He said so during his speech at the swearing-in ceremony of MPT Council Members.

The appointment involved 11 new candidates, with 10 being incumbent holders.

MPT has also received a tourism allocation totaling RM243,000 involving a project to upgrade pedestrian routes in Taiping Lake Gardens.
